Home Owners Association
The Pearl Valley Home Owners Association plays an active role and forms an integral part towards ensuring the growth and success of the Estate. The current Board of Trustees are: Martin Venter, Morné Bosch (Chairman), Sarel Rossouw, Ryk Neethling, Renier Swart, Chris McCann, Wouter de Vos, Colin Laity and Marcel Swanepoel.
He has sufficient experience and knowledge to lead the development and professional team for the conceptualization and the implementation of any size of property development. Martin Venter is the Executive Chairman and Founder of the Elements Group of Companies which developed, amongst others, the Val de Vie Estate. His qualifications include BLC (Law), LLB (UP), Hons., MBA (US) and R.E.E.S, Private Equity and Venture Capital (Harvard Business School). He is also an Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Martin initially built his career as a commercial attorney in litigation and garnered extensive experience in property development and property investment as one of the early / founding directors in Atterbury Property Cape (Pty) Ltd. As developer he has completed many successful residential and commercial property developments in excess of R3bn. He was awarded the ABSA entrepreneur of the year in 1994. He is also an annual guest lecturer at UCT for their MSc Property Studies programme.
Chairman of the Pearl Valley HOA and Managing Director of Elements Management, a private company contracted to manage and administer the HOA. He also serves as Chairman of the Val de Vie Board of Trustees of the HOA and follows a hands-on approach in managing the HOA to ensure that the Board of Trustees fulfil its responsibilities with the help of the managing agent. His field of expertise lies in business restructuring, business development and operations management. He completed his articles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, obtained a CA (SA), and an MBA (USA).
Group Financial Director of the Val de Vie entities. He has a background in auditing and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers until December 2007 where after he joined Val de Vie. Sarel is a qualified CA (SA). He has a wide range of business expertise, both in the capacity as auditor, director and shareholder in various entities in different market segments. He is Chief Financial Officer in developments with an aggregate value in excess of R 1 billion and is skilled in development feasibility, financing, sales and investment in property and related aspects.
Olympic Gold Medallist, three time World Champion and founder of the Learn to Swim Academies across South Africa. Ryk spent four years in the real estate industry having assisted in the development and management of various commercial properties after obtaining a degree in BA Psychology and Business at the University of Arizona, USA. He also obtained his Arizona Real Estate License in 2001. In 2009 he was appointed Marketing Director of Val de Vie Estate and Elements Management being actively involved with real estate sales and new developments, promoting the Estate’s wines and restaurant and successfully steering the Val de Vie Magazine.
Chairman of Val de Vie Security and Infrastructure sub-committees. He is the Managing Director and a shareholder of the Star Motor Group. His qualifications include BCom Accounting Honours and CTA (University of Pretoria), BProc (UNISA) and CA (SA). Renier joined Nissan SA in 1996 after completing his articles with PwC. He successfully started a number of Nissan, Ford, Mazda, UD, Fiat and Alfa Romeo dealerships and is a multiple franchise dealer of the year award winner. He also served and chaired a number of vehicle franchise dealer councils. His entrepreneurial skills were acknowledged in 2001 with the Pretoria Business Chamber Business of the Year award. Renier is also an experienced property developer and has successfully completed several large commercial property developments.
Elected as Pearl Valley Golf Club Captain in 2016 for the next two years. Hailing from Rostrevor in County Down, Northern Ireland, he came to live in South Africa for a second time in 1996. As Film Producer in the advertising industry, he manages various international clients when they visit South Africa during the filming phase. Over the years he has forged relationships and produced commercials for most of the world’s leading brands such as Chanel For Men, Unilever, Nestlé, Ford Motor Company, Nokia, ITV (a commercial TV network in the United Kingdom) and Nokia to name a few. His other great love is the game of golf and also the reason why he chose to build a home and live at Pearl Valley where he can play the scenic championship Jack Nicklaus Signature course in top condition all year round. He is passionate about promoting the game of golf to young and old.
Wouter de Vos
CEO of Atterbury Property Fund, a blue chip real estate fund with assets that includes a stake in the newly build 130,000m2 Mall of Africa in Gauteng, Bagatelle Mall in Port Louis in Mauritius, The Grove Mall in Windhoek Namibia and The Newtown Junction in Gauteng. The fund also has various investments in the Western Cape, including 50% of the British American Tobacco portion in the new office development situated at the V&A Waterfront Cape Town. Acquired his B.Com at the University of Pretoria in 1989 and embarked on a career in the banking industry, including 18 years at Investec Private Bank, where he headed up the Northern Region and served on the National Executive team. Prior to Regional Managerial roles, he specialised in private client investment banking including structured property finance in his capacity as Head of Property Finance and Property Wealth Western Cape, as well as growth and acquisition finance. Past Director and co-owner of the boutique private equity investment firm Talana Capital. He has called Pearl Valley home since 2008 and lists his interests as golf, cycling and running.
Managing Director of Group1 Motors, South Africa’s leading award winning vehicle dealership group with 180 employees and a turnover in excess of R0.5bn per annum. The company’s current footprint comprise nine branded (Nissan, Hyundai, Renault, Datsun and Geely) retail outlets in the Western Cape and Gauteng. His qualifications include a B.Com NMMU, Mechanical Engineering (NHD) and a B.Com Financial. Marcel previously held positions at Nissan South Africa, Volkswagen South Africa and Deloitte & Touche and currently serves on the Dealer Council for Nissan South Africa as well as Nissan’s Global Dealer Advisory Panel.
